Slash Command Symbols
Every math symbol you can type with a slash command in the handout editor, and the words that find it.
With your cursor in text, a heading, or a list, type / followed by any of a symbol’s search words, then press Enter. The symbol goes in at your cursor as ordinary text. Typing part of its name works too, so /greater finds ≥.
For the rest of the slash menu, see Slash Commands.
| Symbol | Name | Type any of |
|---|---|---|
| ÷ | Division sign | /div, /divide, /division, /obelus |
| × | Multiplication sign | /times, /multiply, /multiplication, /x |
| · | Dot operator | /cdot, /dot, /multiply |
| ± | Plus-minus sign | /pm, /plusminus, /plus, /minus |
| ≤ | Less than or equal to | /leq, /le, /lessthan |
| ≥ | Greater than or equal to | /geq, /ge, /greaterthan |
| ≠ | Not equal to | /neq, /ne, /notequal |
| ≈ | Approximately equal to | /approx, /almostequal |
| π | Pi | /pi |
| ∞ | Infinity | /infty, /infinity |
| √ | Square root sign | /surd, /radical, /root |
| ° | Degree | /deg, /degree |
| | | Vertical bar | /bar, /abs, /absolute, /pipe |
Short search words can match more than one command. /x, for example, also matches Text Block, Exponent, and Mixed number, and /div also matches Divider and Long division. The menu shows every match, and blocks come before symbols, so use ↓ to reach the symbol. /obelus finds only ÷.
The √ sign is just the symbol. To get a square root you can type under, use the Square root command instead. It’s listed with the other math commands on Slash Commands.
